Shatta Wale Missing Out As A Performing Artiste In 2018 VGMAs & Here’s Why

Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr. affectionately called Shatta Wale prior to this year had a long standing beef with Charterhouse Ghana, organisers of Ghana Music Awards. The consequences of the beef led to the expulsion of Shatta Wale from the most prestigious awards scheme in Ghana.

Truth be told, by kind courtesy of Zylofon Media, Shatta Wale has been reinstated into the awards scheme. As a result, music enthusiasts especially fans of Shatta Wale were looking forward to seeing their favourite Dancehall artiste being part of the performing acts in this year’s prestigious awards festival slated for April 14, 2018 inside Accra International Conference Center.

Unfortunately, Shatta Wale once again is missing out as a performing artiste in this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. As a reminder, artistes billed for the awards ceremony are Sarkodie, Joe Mettle, MzVee, Samini, Efya, Praye, Akosua Agyapong, Kwasi Arthur, Kidi, Adina, Kuami Eugene, Fancy Gadam, King Promise and Kelvyn Boy.

Fast forward, the absence of Shatta Wale has open doors for interrogations. But when asked why Zylofon Media artistes including Shatta Wale were not billed to perform, Head of Communications for Charter House, organisers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, George Quaye told Radio Univers’ Zionfelix in an interview that the artistes that have been billed are equally good.

“We have not blacklisted any artiste. We have several big and respectable musicians who are also not on the bill so the Zylofon Media artistes missing on the bill is not intentional on the side of the organisers to sideline them. We made sure all genres are fully represented and Samini on the bill is representing Reggae/dancehall category,” he said.

“There will be many VGMAs in the coming years. Shatta Wale is back to the awards and who knows, he might be the headline artiste for next year’s event. We don’t have any problem as organisers of the event maybe Zylofon Media would have something else to say if you call them,” he added.

But from a reliable source available to ghbase.com, the appearance fee of Shatta Wale as proposed by Zylofon Media scared Charterhouse Ghana from hiring their services of Shatta including their signed artistes (Zylofon Music artistes). From the source, Zylofon Media proposed GH¢200,000 as performance fee.

Now, failure of Charterhouse Ghana who doubles as organisers of Ghana Music Awards to meet the demands of Zylofon Media happens to be the main reason why Shatta Wale is missing out as a performing act in this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
