Ayawaso West Wuogon was the most popular constituency in the run-up to 2020 Presidential and parliamentary elections because of John Dumelo, a popular actor in Africa who was competing for the seat in parliament against NPP’s Lydia Alhassan.
With John Dumelo, giving away laptops to some members of the constituency, cleaning up gutters with the youth, braiding hairs of ladies, pounding fufu with local people all in a bid to win their love and get them to vote him, he gave Maa Lydia Alhassan who was the incumbent MP for the constituency, some serious ‘Pressure.
John Dumelo failed to win the seat as the incumbent MP won the majority votes, giving the actor a gap of over 2,000 votes. Maa Lydia had 39,851 and John had 37,778 votes.
At her victory party after the elections, Maa Lydia has thrown some shades down the way of John Dumelo and those saying, she won the elections by a slim margin.
She’s heard saying; “Slim margin? Do you call over 2,000 votes small? What are you saying?”
