Sogakope: Police officer jailed 3 years with hard labour for dangerous cycling and negligence leading to the death of a civilian

A police officer in Sogakope in the Volta Region has been jailed for 36 months with hard labour for dangerous cycling and negligence.

The officer identified as Corporal Akwesi Yeboah and stationed at Sogakope was jailed for 36 months after he was found guilty of dangerous cycling and negligently causing harm.

On August 8, 2018, a case of dangerous cycling and negligently causing harm was reported against the Police Corporal and after a thorough investigation, the case was referred to the Attorney General who advised his prosecution.

Corporal Akwesi Yeboah pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him but after trial, he was found guilty of the two charges which apparently led to the death of one Gabriel Azilaku.

The prosecution prayed for a fine and compensation but the court overruled and imposed 36 months imprisonment in hard labour on the counts of charges.

The case was presided over by His Honour Felix Datsomor.
