South African football team banned from football after beating their opponent 59-1 in a single match

For defying the beauty of the game with a suspicious 59 goals in a single match, a South African club based in Limpopo have been banned from football.

The team Matiyasi FC beat Nsami Mighty Birds 59-1 while vying for promotion to the Provincial ABC Motsepe League, with 41 goals scored as own-goals.

Infomation made available by FarPost.co.za states that SAFA’s regional office in Limpopo summoned both clubs to a Disciplinary Committee hearing on 25 May 2022 in Giyani.

The teams were charged and found guilty of corruption and contravening the association’s statutes.

According to the report, the clubs have been permanently banned from all football activities while the officials implicated in both clubs have also been given a five-year suspension within the region.
