South Africa’s fight against racism seems to be falling on deaf ears as an act of racism has been brought to the public’s attention.
This act of racism was brought to the spotlight after a white first-year student was captured on tape urinating on a Black student’s belongings at Stellenbosch University.
According to local South African media reports, the black student was asleep when he heard an unpleasant sound in his room only to wake up to see the white student urinating on his belongings.
In the video below, the student victim is heard asking the white student why he is urinating on his belongings.
The white student has, however, been suspended from the school for the racist act as investigations into the incident continue.
“The university has said the incident will be investigated and further action including expulsion and criminal charges may be taken, depending on the outcome of the investigation,” a BBC report said.
A spokesperson for Stellenbosch University, Martin Viljoen said that the university “strongly condemns the destructive, hurtful and racist incident”.
