The Full Armor of God

The Bible uses the analogy of the armor of God to remind Christians of the realities of spiritual conflict and to outline the defences they have at their disposal. Christians are commanded to put on the full armor of God, which includes the Belt of Truth, Breastplate of Righteousness, Gospel of Peace, Shield of Faith, Helmet of Salvation, and Sword of the Spirit.

Armor of God in Scripture

Ephesians 6:10-18: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

“Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

The Belt of Truth

The integrity of the believer In the time of Paul, soldiers used leather girdles or belts that they fastened around their waists to protect their ovaries and carry weapons of war like swords or daggers. His tunic was kept together by the belt so that it wouldn’t snag. Integrity is the glue that ties the Christian armor together.

You will lose the war if you lack integrity in both the major and minor aspects of your life. Would others describe you as a person of integrity, a man or a woman? If not, you will not succeed in the conflict.

The Shoes of Peace

The Peace of the Believer – Because they needed a firm base to manoeuvre from when fighting, Roman soldiers’ shoes included hobnails on the sole, remarkably similar to football cleats.

You can never start a war until you have a firm foundation in peace. Doesn’t that sound contradictory? When Satan tries to disrupt your peace, he scatters stones and briars of discouragement and doubts to make you trip. Do you currently feel at peace? If not, you will not succeed in the conflict.

The Shield Of Faith

The typical Roman soldier’s shield was composed of wood and wrapped in leather, measuring around two by four feet. Soldiers back then would dip arrows in oil, light them, and fire them towards the opposition. The soldier needed these shields to prevent being burned.

Satan will shoot doubt-filled blazing darts at you. He wants to instil small doubts about God and His Truth in your mind. He is aware that a small spark might start a large fire. Feed your faith and starve your doubts, respectively. Do you now harbour any doubts in your mind? If there are, you will lose the conflict.

The Sword of The Spirit

The sword of the Spirit, which is God’s Word, is the most potent tool God has given Christians like us when we are tempted. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He did a magnificent job of modelling this.

Jesus fought back against the devil’s temptations by using the sword of the Spirit. Satan heard the Word of God from Jesus in Luke 4:1-13, Jesus responded, “It is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord God only. Him only you shall serve.” and again brought the Scripture back into context, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”

Helmet of Salvation

A soldier wore a helmet to protect his head since he couldn’t think if his head was hurt. The thought of Christ must be under the authority of Almighty God in every believer.

After being saved, a person experiences mental clarity for the first time. A sort of insanity exists in a person who lacks the Holy Spirit and the Lord Jesus Christ. They do not function according to the mentality that God gave them. Your certainty of salvation is the most crucial thing to have at all times.

The Breastplate of Righteousness

Sometimes woven chain was used to create a soldier’s breastplate, which protected the soldier’s critical organs. The breastplate of righteousness is for the Christian.

The opponent intends to battle you both with impurity and lies. He urges you to indulge in all physical lusts, watch immoral movies, and read dirty periodicals. Satan tries to enter your heart and thoughts, to put it simply.

He’s searching for a weakness in your defences. Also, don’t be duped. That gap is located where Satan knows. Do you have a clean heart before God? If not, you will not succeed in the conflict.
