The full list of winners for the 2014 Channel O African Music Awards is finally out and unfortunately our Ghanaian artistes who got nominated at the biggest music award show in Africa, did not get to win any of the nominations, they received.
It was a spectacular event with performances from various artistes. Patoranking performed the popular song “Girlie O” with Tiwa Savage and that got everyone singing and dancing. Sarkodie who got nominated in the Most Gifted Male category alongside the likes of Davido, Cassper Nyovest, K.O and Riky Rick, but unfortunately, Cassper Nyovest beated them all to pick that award. Cassper also won the most gifted video of the year and most gifted southern.
R2Bees who were also nominated in the Most Gifted West category with their song “Slow Down” ft Wizkid did not get to win that category, Olamide from Nigeria took that from them. Our very own Shatta Wale, also got nominated in the Most Gifted Ragga Dancehall category but couldn’t also win from his category. It went out to Buffalo Souldja
Well, no single artiste from Ghana picked any award for the categories they were nominated in and it’s very sad. It’s means that, there is soo much work to be done. Our own people did not vote for the artistes and sometimes, you just can’t blame them. The artistes themselves, don’t promote themselves well when they are nominated at international awards, and if those awards are won based on votes online, it becomes very hard for a Ghanaian to win. Mention can be mad of several instances.
