The popular opinion in reference to what pushed the one-time vibrant Ghana movie industry into “coma” is the division amongst the movie stakeholders. However, award winning Ghanaian cinematographer, Evander Kwame Agyemang thinks otherwise!
In the voice of the versatile cinematographer, division in the movie industry has nothing to do with its ailing or better still coma state but lack of investors is the major causative factor.
Speaking on E-Zone with Nana Amoako da Black Child on Ashh 101.1fm in Kumasi, Evander told the host the industry needs investors who are ready to inject money into the business for directors and stakeholders to do quality works.
“The problems facing the movie industry has nothing to do with unity, Hollywood is Hollywood today because the American government invest in it”, he said.
“We need investors and government’s intervention to revive the movies we do here”, he added.
The director who is currently promoting his debut directed movie, “Asantewaa”, further pleaded with government to initiate policies that will benefit and move the industry forward.
Asantewaa is set to be premiered at Beige Village, New Abirem and Modak Royal Hotel, Kwahu Pepease in the Eastern Region on 19th to 21st April, 2019.
The feature film which starred; Kojo Nkansah Lilwin, Akrobeto, Yaw Dabo, Emelia Brobbey, Nancy Agyapong, Nana Danso and others has been selected for showing at the Lift-Offs and First Timers Film Festival in the United Kingdom.
