I listened till the very end & listened 3 more times over the weekend. This song is a hit. But here’s the difference; this songwriter is great.

Sometimes we move & groove to songs because of a hook, some jargon, the rhythm or some artist we like & want to win.

A song may be pointless, the melodies attract no interest, but we jam anyway, & after a couple of tricks or seasons, like a pretty face & shape with no character, or massive muscles & strength with no focus nor purpose, it thrills for a bit & is gone with the wind.

Kofi Kinaata’s song places him in the esteemed company of respectable songwriters led undoubtedly in Ghana by Nana Kwame Ampadu & Mr Music Man Kojo Antwi. The creative thinking & fine art of songwriting is not for every one. Bob Dylan, Nana Kwame Ampadu, Bob Marley, Kojo Antwi, Paul McCartney, Kofi Ani Johnson, John Lennon, King Bruce, Chuck Berry, Abirekyireba Kofi Sammy, Smokey Robinson, Alex Konadu, Dolly Parton, A B Crentsil, Lionel Richie, Jerry Hansen, Michael Jackson, Nana Tuffour, Wulomei, Abrante3 Amakye Dede, Dzadzeloi & other greats who have cautioned, comforted, enlightened, serenaded & enamoured us through their repertoire. These greats will have their music on rotation, in hearts, minds & souls long after they have flown away.

Presently Adele, Sarkodie, Lukas Graham, Joe Mettle, Davido, Diana Hamilton, Teni & this hearty, playful yet curiously serious Kofi Kinaata seem among the few to really get the memo.

Kofi Kinaata is fabulous. Easy listening, pretty rhyming, gentle proselytizing, music making fabulosity.

If you haven’t given him sufficient attention, take a listen to this song, then go listen to all what he has created to date.

The beautiful art of songwriting was dying a slow death in Ghana. Kofi manages to flee the self-aggrandizement, braggadocio, incendiary matter for battle, tittle-tattle, & sex for designer goods & cars low road that populate our radio, tv & social media. He has served us music to think, rise, love and groove to.

May the creativity and purpose of Kofi Kinaata, & all artistes who serve sense & sensibility, not hate & subjectivity, shine brighter in God’s grace & favour.?”

Over the years, Kofi Kinaata has shown that he is a good songwriter considering the content in the sings he has released so far and no wonder, he won back-to-back awards for his songwriting prowess at the 2016/2019 VGMA’s.
