At the 21st edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku was adjudged the 2020 Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year; beating competition from the likes of J.Derobie, Epixode, Jupitar etc,.
That was the first time the experienced and widely celebrated musician has ever won an award at the VGMAs since the start of his musical career.
The joy and ecstasy that characterised his reception of the much-coveted award came to the fore when he came to offer the appreciation message after receiving the plaque…a fulfilling journey indeed.
Following that, Ras Kuuku has been moving across every nook and cranny of the country presenting his award to fans and taking pictures and videos celebrating the milestone he has chalked.
He is still in the celebration mood and his Facebook page has been inundated with videos and pictures of the plaques since he won it on August 29 2020. His fans have expressed genuine concern over the fact that Ras Kuuku is over-celebrating this award.
It is clear this is very award is very important to his career and perhaps be the seal on his long toil in the music industry, but clearly, his over obsession with the award is very concerning.

Fans have reacted to Ras Kuuku’s inability to allow the maiden VGMA plaque he has won ‘rest.’ Many believe he is over-celebrating the award since it will lead to complacency and perhaps collapse his career.
Many also believe the award he won was simply because the likes of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were out of the nominations which made it possible for him thus he should view it as a compensation for his work over the years.
