In 1993, Christopher, credited as Tyler Baker at the time, auditioned for the role of Stone Cates in the soap opera General Hospital. However, the role was ultimately given to actor Michael Sutton. Fast forward to April 1996, Christopher was offered the role of Nikolas Cassadine in the same serial. He signed a three-year contract and began filming his first scenes in late June of that year. Christopher died from a “cardiac event” in San Diego, at the age of 50. “General Hospital” co-star Maurice Benard announced the news on Instagram Tuesday evening, writing, “Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.”

Benard noted that “Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol.”
Christopher’s representative, Chi Muoi Lo told CNN in a statement that the actor died Tuesday morning.
“This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss. He was a very gifted actor, and more importantly, an amazing friend. My heart goes out to his friends and family who loved him so much,” the statement read.
