In 1993, Christopher, credited as Tyler Baker at the time, auditioned for the role of Stone Cates in the soap opera General Hospital. However, the role was ultimately given to actor Michael Sutton. Fast forward to April 1996, Christopher was offered the role of Nikolas Cassadine in the same serial. He signed a three-year contract and began filming his first scenes in late June of that year. In June 1999, it was announced that Christopher had decided not to renew his contract with the soap. Following his departure from daytime television, Christopher made appearances in primetime shows.
Then, in March 2003, it was revealed that Christopher would be returning to General Hospital. The executive producer at the time, Jill Farren Phelps, described his return as an opportunity that the show simply couldn’t pass up. Benard noted that “Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol.”
