We are going to legalize ‘Okada’ soon – Ministry of Transport reacts to NDC manifesto

The Ministry of Information has detailed plans and progress the current government has made on the plan to legalize the use of commercial motorbikes “Okada.”

This response comes on the back of the manifesto promise by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which proposes the legalization of OkadA if they win the 2020 general elections.

Following that, a statement dated Friday, September 11, 2020, suggests that the Ministry of Transport in consultation with other stakeholders and interest groups are far ahead on the plan to implement the legalization of Okada.

Excerpts of the statement read:

“The Minsitry of Transport has taken notice of public debate on the legality of the Okada business…

“The Akufo-Addo governemnt, upon assumption of office, sought to assess the implementation of the Road Traffic Act, and, in the process, needed to consult all stakeholders, industyr players and interest groups on the provisions in the law…

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the final stage of the stakeholder enegagement is expected to commence in October 2020, and a report presented before the Cabinet fr consideration
