According to Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah, the General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Ghanaians do not need the construction of a National Cathedral.
She made her point clear when she appeared on the New Day program hosted by Johnnie Hughes on TV3 on Thursday, September 1. She said that because every Christian goes to church on Sundays, there is no need for a cathedral.
“I don’t think we need the cathedral now. Every Sunday everybody goes to church and so what is the use of the cathedral,” she said while contributing to a discussion on the suspension of the project.
The inability to continue funding the project was the reason for its discontinuation.
According to letters that were delivered to employees by contractors Ribade Company Limited, the project was halted due to a “lack of payment from the National Cathedral of Ghana.” This information was included in the letters.
“In compliance with such an obligation under the contract, RIBADE COMPANY LTD has no option but to issue this letter of notice terminating the agreement between RIBADE COMPANY LTD and you as per the provisions of your employment agreement,” a termination letter to one of the workers noted.
The notice of termination took effect on Monday, March 14.
