“We shall surely build the National Cathedral, it is a priority” – Government

Minister-designate for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ebenezer Kojo Kum has said the planned construction of the National Cathedral by the Akufo-Addo government remains a priority.

Appearing before Parliament’s Appointment Committee, Mr Kum said the government has allocated $25 million seed capital for the construction of the cathedral.

He added that work on the unpopular project stalled due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The National Cathedral project is still a government priority project. The President has said that the project is going to be constructed at the very least cost to the state. It is on course and already the constructors are on-site, he said.

Meanwhile, a section of Ghanaians believes the construction of a National Cathedral is a misplaced priority especially when there are more pressing issues calling for immediate attention.

Also, a distraught citizen went to the court to seek an injunction that will stop the construction of the National Cathedral but in February 2020, the Supreme Court dismissed his case…which in effect means, the construction of the National Cathedral is bound to happen.

Do you also know a stone was imported from Isreal to serve as the foundation of the National Cathedral?
