The incident occurred after 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of 84th Street and Lindbergh Boulevard in the Southwest region of the city. According to official reports, a Honda was heading south on 84th Street when it collided with a pedestrian who was crossing Lindbergh Boulevard in a westward direction.
Following the collision, the vehicle fled the scene. The police identified the car as a 2023 Honda Accord with New York license plates marked LDM-2367. Subsequently, law enforcement located and impounded the vehicle; however, the driver’s identity remains undisclosed.
Medical personnel pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the crash site. Philadelphia Police Captain Anthony Mirabella Jr. recollected, “Upon arrival, they found a woman who had been struck by a vehicle; regrettably, she had succumbed to her injuries.”
The victim, later identified as Ashley Gaylor-McLean, was a 27-year-old resident of Glenolden in Delaware County. A GoFundMe link was shared on the Folcroft Borough Police Department’s Facebook page, indicating that McLean was the daughter of a police officer from the same department.
Ashley’s mother had served on the police force for approximately 17 years, according to official sources. Chris Eiserman, President of the Delaware County Fraternal Order of Police, recounted that McLean and her friends were en route to Glenolden when they made a stop in Southwest Philadelphia.
“For reasons we’re still trying to ascertain, she exited the vehicle and stepped onto the roadway, where she was struck by the driver,” Eiserman conveyed.
Eiserman, a close friend of McLean’s mother, expressed the profound impact of this tragedy on both the family and the police department, where McLean had grown up.
He said, “The mother is deeply distressed and devastated by this ordeal, and we’re doing everything we can to support her and the family.”
