Doja Cat’s father, Dumisani Dlamini is an actor, television personality and singer. Before relocating to the United States to pursue a career in the arts, the 59-year-old celebrity was born and raised in South Africa. He appeared in Sarafina, the Tony-nominated musical’s first Broadway production. In the 1992 movie adaption, in which Whoopi Goldberg also appeared, he also performed the role of Crocodile.

He returned to South Africa after his Broadway stint and has since resumed acting there. He frequently uploads images of his work to Instagram.

According to IMDb, he played Bra Yule in the 2021 television series Reyka, which was his most recent project. Unfortunately, Doja and her biological father haven’t had a great relationship. In a December 2021 profile for Rolling Stone, Doja said that she had no encounters with Dumisani and only knew what her mother Deborah Sawyer would tell her.

Doja claimed that she does not have a good relationship with her father, however, Dumisani has refuted this in interviews. In an interview with Power Talk in 2019, he claimed that the two exchanged messages on WhatsApp. He exuded a great sense of pride in his daughter.

Doja’s mother, Deborah Sawyer, relocated her and her brother to California, United States of America after her father left her to go back to Africa. Her love of music appeared to have been influenced by her mother’s passion for R&B. In a 2013 interview with The Hotbox, Doja mentioned John Coltrane, Alice Coltrane, Jamiroquai, Seal, The Fugees, and Earth, Wind & Fire as inspirations that her mum would play in the house.

Doja said that her mom is also a very creative person in her own right, despite the fact that her dad may have given her the performance skills. In an interview with VladTV in May 2020, she stated that her mother painted, is a visual artist, and also works as a clothing designer for males.
