To have your valuables stolen from your bag just when you are about to travel or have arrived from a journey, is not something that anyone would want to experience, and when the people who are supposed to take care of your valuables are the ones stealing your valuables, it could be particularly disturbing. Labarrius Williams and Josue Gonzalez, TSA agents, have been reported to have engaged in an act of stealing from passenger’s bags.
The incident has made people ask questions as to how they got their jobs, and for how long they had engaged in such an act before they finally got noticed for having done so.
What Did Labarrius Williams And Josue Gonzalez Do?
In the latter half of June and the beginning of July, at a security checkpoint at Miami International Airport, two TSA employees were detained after being caught on camera swiping cash from travelers’ luggage.
Labarrius Williams and Josue Gonzalez have been named as the individuals in question. They were observing the luggage that was being examined at the airport while on duty. According to a police affidavit, the Transportation Security Administration officers devised a scheme to steal money from carry-ons hidden in bins on a conveyor belt, which they then carried out with each other’s assistance.
Labarrius Williams and Josue Gonzalez were captured on camera at the carousel, utilizing it to steal money from passing by people’s personal things in the neighborhood. The men put the money into their pockets while stuffing their hands into the bags.
Along with these two agents, another TSA employee named Elizabeth Fuster was also charged with grand theft after being detained and charged in July. Fuster was first charged with taking $600 from a victim’s pocketbook. But ultimately, the case was dropped.
Who Are Labarrius Williams And Josue Gonzalez?
Their alleged theft case has made them popular, and people want to know more about them. As of now, there isn’t much information about their background. According to NBC Miami, TSA employees Josue Gonzalez, 20, and Labarrius Williams, 33, were detained in July on theft-related allegations along with a third employee, whose accusation was later dropped by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.
More than two months after Gonzalez and Labarrius Williams were charged with stealing from traveler’s bags and handbags, the airport has now made the suspected robberies’ footage public.
Gonzalez can be seen fussing with a passenger’s bag in some of the videos as he follows the bag down the conveyor belt while attempting to unzip the zipper. According to WSVN, the duo operated the scam for several months, and in one instance, a traveler reported that their luggage included $600 in cash that was missing.
A TSA spokesperson told WSVN that the “Transportation Security Administration holds its Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to the highest professional and ethical standards and has no tolerance for misconduct in the workplace.”
“We actively and aggressively investigated these allegations of misconduct and presented our findings to [Miami-Dade Police], and are working closely with them. Any employee who fails to meet our fundamental ethical standards is held accountable,” the spokesperson said.
