On May 13, 1993, in Sneedville, Tennessee, Tommy and Lesli Wallen had their first child, Morgan. Lesli worked as a teacher while Tommy briefly served as the pastor of a nearby church. In his teenage years, the family moved south to Knoxville, where he attended Gibbs High School and received his diploma.

He played shortstop and pitcher for the school’s baseball team, and he had intended to play in college, but his ulnar collateral ligament was torn during his senior year.

Wallen studied the violin and the piano when he was younger. He grew up listening to a wide variety of music, with his father introducing him to classic rock standards. In his teenage years, he was drawn to artists like Lil Wayne, Breaking Benjamin, and Nickelback. After high school, Wallen worked in landscaping and expressed disappointment at not being able to pursue his baseball career.
