His father was a founder of the Shoe Corporation of America and subsequently served as chairman of the Clark International Corp. and the Shoe Corporation of Canada.
Richard S. Lee and Jonathan O. Lee were his two siblings. After graduating from Harvard College in 1965, Lee, a graduate of Belmont Hill School, started working as a researcher for L.F. Rothschild in New York City’s institutional research division. The following year, Lee started working for the First National Bank of Boston, where he stayed for the following eight years before becoming a vice president in 1973.
