Bauer was born on January 17, 1991, in North Hollywood, California. He attended Hart High School in Santa Clarita, California, where he played baseball and was a standout pitcher. After high school, Bauer attended UCLA, where he played college baseball for the UCLA Bruins. In 2011, he won the Golden Spikes Award, which is given annually to the best amateur baseball player in the United States.
Bauer was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks as the third overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Diamondbacks in 2012 and played for the team for three seasons before being traded to the Cleveland Indians in 2013. He played for the Indians for six seasons, and during that time he developed into one of the best pitchers in the league. Trevor was named an All-Star in 2018 and finished in the top five in AL Cy Young Award voting three times.
In 2020, Bauer signed with the Cincinnati Reds as a free agent and had a career year. He led the NL in ERA (Earned Run Average) and strikeouts and was named the NL Cy Young Award winner. After the season, he signed a massive free-agent contract with the Dodgers.
