Since 2023, John Karl Fetterman has served as the junior United States Senator from Pennsylvania. He was a Democrat and the mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, from 2006 to 2019. He was also the 34th lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania from 2019 to 2023.

Fetterman was born in Reading Hospital in West Reading, Pennsylvania, to Karl and Susan Fetterman.

His parents were both 19 years old when he was born.

Later, they moved to York, Pennsylvania, where Fetterman spent his formative years and his father was elevated to the position of partner at an insurance company.

John Fetterman grew up in an affluent York suburb with ardent Republicans for parents.

For two years, Fetterman underwrote risk management for Chubb in Pittsburgh.

The spouse of Fetterman is a Brazilian-American activist named Gisele Barreto. In 2007, Fetterman received a letter from Almeida, a former undocumented resident of Newark, New Jersey, who had learned of Fetterman’s work as mayor of Braddock.

Fetterman welcomed Almeida to Braddock, and the two later got married.

The family resides in a former car dealership with their two rescue dogs, Levi and Artie. They have three children. The family made the choice not to live in State House, which serves as the official residence of Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor.

Gisele Barreto Fetterman is a charity executive, activist, and philanthropist of Brazilian origin. She is a co-founder of the charities For Good PGH and 412 Food Rescue as well as the nonprofit Freestore 15104.
