Anthony was born on 25 June 1956 in Manhattan to Gladys and Pierre Bourdain. His father worked as a salesman at a New York City camera store, as well as a floor manager at a record store whiles his mother worked as a staff editor of The New York Times.
Bourdain graduated from the Dwight-Englewood School in 1973. He then continued at Vassar College but dropped out after 2 years. His passion for food was back in action. Bourdain worked in seafood restaurants in Provincetown, Massachusetts and the desire to pursue cooking as a career was high on him. So, he attended The Culinary Institute of America graduating in 1978. After school, he worked in several restaurant kitchens in New York City.
Anthony became an executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles in 1998 where he remained for many years. However, the restaurant was closed down in 2017 after filing for bankruptcy.
