‘Why give ₵25m to National Cathedral project while NABCo, school cooks, service personnel unpaid?’ – Ablakwa to Akufo Addo

North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says, “With the economy in such bad shape, why is the Akufo-Addo government giving the National Cathedral project a huge GHS25 million?”

In a post on Facebook on Thursday, June 2, 2022, he said, “It’s shocking that this is the same government that says it doesn’t have enough money to pay NABCo trainees, school food caterers, service workers, the 3-year no-textbooks-syndrome, etc.”

The opposition MP said, “The loving God we all serve can’t be happy with this lack of focus.”

“It’s also important to point out that this clearly insensitive behavior is not approved by Parliament. We’ll be asking for answers right away in Parliament.”

In March 2020, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said that the National Cathedral, which is being built in the middle of Accra, will be one of the most famous buildings on the African continent.

President Akufo-Addo told the people at a ceremony at the Cathedral construction site to lay the foundation stone so that construction work could begin that he is determined to lead the efforts to make sure the project is finished as a promise to God.

President Akufo-Addo said, “As I said on March 6, 2017, when the National Cathedral is done, it will be one of the most famous buildings on the African continent.”

In his speech, the President said there were three main reasons why he wanted to get people to help build the Cathedral.

First, the President said, “Since we got our independence from the colonial power on March 6, 1957, 63 years ago, Ghana has been hit by civil war, famine, and disease.”

“We are no better than the other countries in our area that have also had to deal with these problems. I think that God’s grace is what has kept us alive and kept us going. The Cathedral will be built as a way to thank God for all of His blessings, grace, favor, and mercies on our country “, President Akufo-Addo said.

Secondly, President Akufo-Addo said, “Seventy-one percent of the people in Ghana are Christian, and they belong to one of the many branches of the Christian Faith. The National Cathedral, which is open to all Christian groups, will help bring Christians together and promote national unity and social coercion “.

Lastly, President Akufo-Addo said that he promised Almighty God that if He was kind enough to make him President, he would help build a Cathedral to His glory and honor.

President Akufo-Addo said, “I am determined to keep this promise.”
