The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come under heavy fire from Ghanaian actress and social commentator Lydia Forson for selecting Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their flagbearer for the 2024 elections in spite of his obvious flaws.
The well-known social critic and filmmaker recently tweeted her confusion at the NPP’s choice of Bawumia, who is commonly thought to be a member of the economic management group that caused Ghana’s economic crisis, on Thursday, November 9.
Forson claims that the NPP’s selection of Bawumia demonstrates either their ignorance or their audacity in fielding a candidate who, in collusion with Akufo-Addo, has brought great suffering to the Ghanaian people.
Forson questioned the decision, stating, “The NPP’s selection of Bawumia as their flag-bearer is incredibly intriguing to me. How can they present a candidate whom many people believe is involved in the current economic crises we’re experiencing?”
