With all the arable land Ghana has, we still import food because there’s no plan – John Dumelo shades the gov’t

Ghanaian actor John Dumelo believes Ghana has enough arable lands to feed its citizens and to do away with the importation of food.

According to him, with a proper plan in place, Ghana should become food sufficient after it has converted all the arable lands lying uncultivated into food-producing hubs.

Writing this view on social media with accompanying photos of himself standing on a tract of land, John Duelo said Ghana has no excuse not to succeed in the Agriculture sector.

He wrote: As a country, we have tens of 1000’s of hectares of uncultivated arable land enough to farm to feed ourselves and export. We have no excuse not to succeed in the Agric sector. We need a short, medium and long term agric plan. We can do this!

Experts in the agriculture sector have said Ghana has the potential to produce all that it needs to feed its citizens and to export for foreign exchange. However, in 2020, Ghana was part of the leading importers of frozen meat, rice and other groceries.

John Dumelo believes our leaders need to have a definite plan that does not only fix the importation and exportation gap but also provides employment to many.
