To illustrate aptly that honesty is the best policy, a Kenyan woman has been rewarded for returning money mistakenly paid into her account.
Grace recounted how she was going through a challenging time as her mother was suffering from cervical cancer and had been hospitalized at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
In an interview with Legit, the lady said at the time she was going through emotional and financial distress, a total of KSh 49, 556 (approximately ₵2,600) was mistakenly sent into her Mpesa account by one Hussain Ali Hussein.
Grace said moments later the person called and begged her to return the money with fear in his voice as he obviously thought there was no way she was going to send the money.
She said: “I had Fuliza and thus when his money came into my phone, about KSh 2,500 was deducted and I was left with 47, 000 which I gladly returned to him.”
Her good conscience ensured that she returned the money and that was when Hussein became friends with her. And upon the death of Grace’s mother to cancer, Hussein sent her a whopping KSh 100,000 (approximately ₵5,200) along with a condolence message.
“During the time burial, he also offered me his five-seater vehicle to help in the transport arrangements,” she added.
