‘You Gave Us Hope In 2017’- Gays Remind Nana Akufo Addo

LGBT+ Rights Ghana, a group advocating for the rights of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgenders, and persons of other sexual orientations, aside from heterosexuals have reminded Nana Akufo Addo about the high hopes he gave them in an interview on international news platform, Aljazeera. 

This reminder is contained in a letter dated March 8, 2021and signed by the Director of LGBT+ Rights Ghana, Mr. Alex Kofi Donkor.According to what a portion of the letter says

“In 2017, your position on the subject during the interview on Aljazeera gave us HOPE that finally we had a President who understood the dynamics of the issue at hand and whose government would be tolerant to the rights of minoritized groups like us…But events since that time have worsened our plight and made us become more endangered,” the letter said in part.

The LGBTQI+ activism and the strong opposition it has received from the ever-conservative Ghanaians have dominated social and mainstream media within these past few days.

A handful of celebs have supported the LGBTIQ+ movement while a vast number of people have spoken vehemently against it with homophobic tendencies.
