It has been reported that at least 34 lawyers have shown their interest in defending the two suspected k!llers of Deborah Samuel, a 200-Level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, who was lyñchêd by a mob on May 12 over alleged blasphêmy.
Per what was gathered before her unfortunate death, Deborah is said to have made a comment on her school’s WhatsApp platform which her Muslim colleagues considered to be blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed (SAW).
As a result, she was killed with stones and planks on Thursday, May 12, and her body was set ablaze.
The lawyers were at the Sokoto Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 16, to defend the suspects identified as Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci.
The defense team was led by Prof. Mansur Ibrahim asked for the bail of the suspects on liberal terms, citing constitutional provisions and sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
According to PM News, the suspects pleaded not guilty to the crime and the trial judge (name withheld for security reasons) ordered them to be remanded at a correctional center.
