Anita Pointer is known as a Grammy Awards-winning American singer and songwriter who is family known for being the founding member of the vocal group, The Pointer Sisters.
The singer, unfortunately, passed away in her California home in Beverly Hills at the age of 74 years on December 31st.
Who is Anita Pointer?
Anita Pointer was one of the members of “The Pointer Sisters” who electrified the world with their music.
She was born into a family of six children by her parents Reverend Elton Pointer and Sarah Elizabeth in Oakland, California, United States of America. Although she was born in California her parents were from Arkansas.
She stayed with her grandparents to study while her parents were in Arkansas hence she completed her fifth grade at McRae Jr. High and tenth grade at McRae High School.
During her time at McRae High School band, she played alto sax in the school band while living in Prescott.
She stopped her work as a secretary in 1969 to establish The Pointer Sisters with her younger sisters, June and Bonnie.

The original The Pointer Sisters were a trio which was Bonnie, Anita, and June before June’s older sister Ruth joined the group in 1972 hence making them a quartet.
As Anita received three Grammy Awards before leaving in 2015, the top 10 hits by The Pointer Sisters were recorded in the United States.
The group was the first contemporary act to perform in the San Francisco Opera House and the first African-American musical group to appear on Grand Ole Opry.
