President Akufo-Addo has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr Oppong-Boanuh to effect the arrest and prosecution of members of the public who refuse to adhere to the strict wearing of masks as means to curb the spread of the virus.
According to the president, as the nation continue to fight against the pandemic, he has observed that many Ghanaians have refused to adhere to the stringent wearing of masks which is part of the spikes in new infections in recent days.
Delivering his 22nd Covid update, President Akufo warned that anyone who will be seen not wearing the mask will be arrested and dealt with by law.
“I have instructed the Inspector General of Police to direct officers, men, and women of the Police Service to ensure the rigorous enforcement of the law on mask-wearing at all public places and in public transport.”
“They are also to ensure the closure of all nightclubs, pubs, cinemas, and beaches that may be operating in defiance of the law. They will be assisted by the other security agencies if need be.”
“Should anyone be arrested by the security agencies disregarding this directive, that person will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law”, he warned.
