Asamoah Gyan should be sent to the World Cup to encourage rather than perform, according to Tema Youth owner Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer.

Asamoah Gyan has expressed to the BBC his desire to participate in the World Cup (BBC).

Ever since he was released by Legon Cities at the conclusion of the 2020/21 season, the 36-year-old has been without a team.

In the group stage in Qatar, Ghana’s opponents will be Uruguay, South Korea, and Portugal.

In a friendly later this month, Ghana will take on Brazil and Nicaragua.

It is anticipated that the Black Stars’ pre-World Cup training would conclude with a match against Switzerland in the month of November.

Osei Kwaku Palmer says Asamoah Gyan can be sent as a legend to motivate the players but not go play at the World Cup.

“I will tell Gyan to allow us to go and do our business or he should go and inspire because he is a legend and that is what we lack in most of the tournaments.

“I have been to competitions several times (AFCON, World Cup) and what other countries do is, they bring their legends and are given special place because when the going gets tough, they will be there to support because of their experience, but we are not celebrating our legends and that is the whole issue,” he added.
