Black Sherif’s quest to win his first major international award fizzled out after he lost the coveted BET HipHop Award’s Best International Flow to Rapper, Benjamin Epps, from France on October 4.
After Sarkodie, who won the International Flow category back in 2019, the Sad Boys President is the second Ghanaian to receive a nomination.
The 17th edition of the BET Hip Hop Awards was held on October 4, 2022, and it served as a celebration of achievement. September 12, 2022, saw the announcement of the nominations.
This year, Fat Joe served as the ceremony’s host.
Drake received the most nominations with 14 slots, followed by 10 each for Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar.
Announcing Benjamin Epp’s win in an Instagram post, BET wrote: “Congratulations to Benjamin Epps on winning the 2022 BET HIP HOP AWARDS BEST INTERNATIONAL FLOW! Please see attached digital assets for your talent and team” as Quoted by Ghanaweb.com.
Meanwhile, regular pundit on United Showbiz (UTV), Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has said the likes of Black Sherif owe Sarkodie big gratitude for paving the way for them.
Arnold intimated that Sarkodie was the first African artist to use his own tongue to win the BET Best International Flow award which became a benchmark, sort of.
He claims that this obviously motivated Black Sherif to succeed with his music and break into the global market hinged on his recent success as the first Ghanaian artist to surpass over 100 million streams on Spotify.
“The recognition is big but it will be icing on the cake if he wins it” Arnold had reasoned.
