History-maker, Joe Mettle who became the first gospel artiste to win the Artiste of the Year award-the topmost award at the event- at the 18th edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Award has stated that he is not troubled by the expression of disapproval coming from several Ghanaians about his award.
“I am one person; I try not to allow certain things to influence my path, I’m still who I am, certain things don’t really bother me like that, you need people like that, you can ignore. You will always have people like that and I think there is more to be done than what we have done, so if it was two times it has to be more than that so that those who never heard my songs will hear it more” he stated.
The Owanwani hitmaker defied all odd to beat much fancied artistes like E.L, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, MzVee, and Medikal to the coveted award. However many are of the firm belief that Joe Mettle does not deserve the award and that he was given the award as a consolation to all gospel musicians when their reputation was bruised by the former PRO of Chapterhouse, George Quaye.
Amidst the criticism Joe Mettle expressed his gratitude to his family and fans for the support they have shown him and dedicated his win to them. “That force had a lot of influence in this win,”
He also revealed the overwhelming support he had from Christians and the various churches: “It was a gospel thing…it was a Christian thing and the support from the church was something else. I had told someone that if we had not won the night the love alone was too much”.
