Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, the Director-General of GES, witnessed the distribution of Laptops to teachers at O’Reilly Senior High School in Accra on Monday.
In presenting the devices, the Director-General discounted the perception that the TM1 Laptops are of poor quality simply because they were not coming from any of the known brands of computers.
On the cost of the laptop as being expensive, the DG of GES “even the simplest smartphone does not cost less than GH₵ 500.00” and that if a “teacher is parting away with such an amount to own a laptop, that cannot be described as shortchanging the teacher.”
In a related development, after the laptops were handed over by the vice president of Ghana to the Ghana Education Service, there have been calls from various personalities to avoid the laptops
In a video posted by one SHS tutor who has gotten his TM1 laptop, the laptop has started giving him difficulties as it has failed to boot just a week after collection.
