To achieve remarkable progress in life, it’s always advisable to look back in order to correct errors to help one not to repeat past mistakes. So, this blog will seek to highlight on the major happenings (good and the ugly) that embraced Ghana’s entertainment industry in 2017 under review.
As usual, the web of death had in its custody a number of celebrities whose tremendous contribution can never be underestimated. It’s our fervent hope and desire to eliminate death but here’s the case it’s inevitable by nature. Some notable personalities who parted with fans and family are; Christopher Opoku (Sports Journalist), Kwadwo Asare-Baffour Acheampong (KABA), Awurama Badu (Musician), Paapa Yankson (Musician), et al. Until we meet again on the judgment day, may their souls rests in perfect peace.
Also, the year under review witnessed the release of music albums by most heavyweight musicians in the country. Sarkodie served his fans with 18 track list hardcore Hip Hop dubbed, “Highest“, Stonebwoy – “Epistles of Mama (EOM)”, Becca – “Unveiling“, E.L – “Best African Rapper (B.A.R – 4)”, Medikal – “Disturbation“, Cabum – “The Beginning“, Ebony – “Bonyfied“, et al.
Regardless, failure to highlight on the controversial issues that surrounded Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Ebony Reigns, Tic Tac, Afia Schwarzenegger, others in 2017 cannot be overlooked. In the course of the year, the biggest controversy emanated from the camp of the two dancahall giants – Shatta Wale & Stonebwoy. It all started when Stonebwoy had 2017 Black Entertainment Television (BET) nomination as Best African Act.
Out of public troll against Shatta Wale, he compared Stonebwoy’s BET nomination with his Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This created immense tension between the arch rivals. Also, Shatta Wale transcended his supremacy into Nigeria and attacked Wizkid daring him not to step foot in Ghana. He continued to fire warning shots at Wizkid in his house and all that.
On the other hand, Ebony Reigns became the talk of town just because of her provocative outfit to events. Not long ago, she went to 4 Syte Music Awards; pantless. Her actions triggered Manasseh Azure Awuni, investigative journalist, to write thesis to advise the budding dancahall artiste. In the process, Ebony silenced her critics especially Manasseh Azure Awuni with “Maame Hwe” with a descent outfit by all standard.
More importantly, Tic Tac walked off live interview in the studios of GH One television following the replay of Shatta Wale’s song. As a result, Tic Tac who couldn’t hold his emotions walked away saying his videos should have been played instead.
To continue, we can’t overlook the acidic explosion which nearly took place in the bedroom of the self-acclaimed queen of comedy, Afia Schwarzenegger vrs Lawrence Abrokwa. In this development, Afia Schwarzenegger was caught live in bed with a different man by his registered husband, Lawrence Abrokwa. As it stands now, the issue is still in court for the parties to share their belongings.
Again, actress Yvonne Nelson faced clashed with Ghanaians especially Counselor George Lutterodt after giving birth to a bastard. Yvonne Nelson climaxed 2017 when she exposed Berla Mundi as “Sugar Daddy” hunter. Aside that, Joyce Blessing was reported to have been involved in a gory accident. An issue most people doubt the authenticity of the accident claims especially the blogger @ Adu Sarpeah.
The year 2017 came to a successful end through various music concerts organised by some artistes. Sarkodie entertained his fans with his annual “Rapperholic” Show and it was lit. Again, Citi FM organised December2Remember with number of influential artistes passing through, EIB – S Concert. Added to this, Kumasi was shut down with “Oseikrom Shut Down” spearheaded by Flowkingstone.
However, we can’t put all the 2017 happenings in one blog post. The aforementioned events happen to be the very few GHBase.com managed to put it out. Keep visiting us on daily basis for comprehensive entertainment updates in 2018.
