The much awaited made in Ghana vehicles under the brand name KANTANKA would finally hit the streets of the nation and beyond before the close of the fourth quarter of 2014, the Kantanka Automobile Co Ltd had announced. This extension of time for the commercialisation of the vehicles from the initial May 2014 have become vital to enable the company carryout the installations of accessory equipment that would enhance the operations of the assembly plant.
In the press conference organised by the company on the 11th of June, the CEO and Africa’s technological pride, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo, made it known that work is still in progress to accomplish the dream to create jobs, enhance the economy and inspire the African. The industriousness about the place tells the whole story on its own.
The euphoria and celebration that characterised the press conference was strong enough to have mistaken it for a grand feast as many Ghanaians, both young and old, dashed to Gomoa Mputa, the residence of the company, to hail the news they described as “breakthrough for Ghana.”
The Kantanka Assembly plant which is as sophisticated as any automobile plant in the world would be cruising out between 80 to 200 four-wheel sports utility vehicles and pickups monthly for a start. The numbers is expected to increase in response to the growth of the market share of the company.
Although the company would begin with the commercialisation of Kantanka Onantefo, other models awaiting to hit the market in the foreseeable future includes Kantanka Okunini, Kantanka Daasebre, Kantanka Nsoromma, Kantanka Omama, Kantanka Obrempong, kantanka Odeneho etc. The company also hinted that by the close of 2015, they would also begin with the mass production of saloon cars with buses following suit.
They also displayed the 4-wheel drives and Pickups that had successfully graduated through the various test runs and called on government for collaboration in the area of capacity building as well as purchasing and supply agreement.
Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo, the Star of Africa, also noted that the Blackman is an intelligent being and has the capabilities to transform his own economy and environment to make it a better place to live. He further called on the public to patronise made in Ghana products.
The company aims to reach and serve the African continent beginning with Ghana and the west African sub region as part of the strategy to invest in Africa.
Amidst all these, the Apostle Safo Technology centre has also announced that plans are underway to establish a full flare educational institution, accredited by the National Accreditation Board, that would practically train thousands of Ghanaians on how to manufacture technological gadgets and machines. Students would be awarded certificates thereafter.
Over the years the Apostle Safo technology centre has collaborated with other educational institutions such as Kumasi Polytechnic and University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) among others to train students and prepare them for the job market. Currently, the centre is giving free training to 550 Ghanaians.
Speaking to the media, the President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and a board member of the Council for Technology and Vocational Education and Training (COVET), Ing. Eric Ankrah, said the institution welcomes the news and is also ready to assist.
