Ghana played in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, their fourth participation in the global competition.

Ghana made its world debut in 2006 and went on to qualify for the 2010 and 2014 tournaments. In 2018, they failed to qualify for a fourth consecutive tournament, although they improved and will return in 2022.

Ghana has departed the group stage twice and reached the knockout stage twice in four visits, with the quarter-finals being the best result so far, achieved in 2010 when the event was hosted in South Africa.

The World Cup is a great platform, and being a part of it offers the nation publicity, which promotes tourism, but has Ghana benefitted in terms of football? Veteran sports writer Michael Oti Adjei disagrees.
