Ghanaians were not pleased with an Independence Day post shared by President Akufo-Addo where Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah was ignored.

These individuals were not pleased with the caption of the President’s post where he used the personal pronoun [We] instead of just acknowledging Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah for leading the fight for Ghana’s independence.

The President’s post read:

64 years ago, we freed our nation, Ghana, from the shackles of colonialism and imperialism. We were the first nation, in colonial Africa, to gain our independence from the colonial power, and, thus, became the torchbearer of the struggle for the liberation of the African continent.

Many believe the President was not ready to acknowledge the founding fathers of Ghana especially when Kwame Nkrumah is in the mix. For others, the President believes his relatives were in the battle for independence thus the glory can not be given to an individual.

From the amendment of holidays to the institutionalization of J.B Danquah, many beleive President Akufo-Addo is trying to change Ghana’as history by imposing his uncle as the founder of Ghana.

Is the President trying to erase the name of Kwame Nkrumah from Ghana’s history? The comments below provide answers.
