Gloria Maria Fajardo, better known by her stage name Gloria Estefan was born in Cuba on 1st September 1957 to her parents Jose and Gloria Fajardo. Due to political upheaval during the Cuban Revolution, her father, a soldier from Cuba, was compelled to relocate his family to the United States.

Estefan started her education at St. Michael-Archangel School, where she was raised Catholic, and continued at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Miami. She graduated from the University of Miami with a B.A. in psychology. She speaks English, Spanish, and French fluently.
