Mr. Boakye Yiadom, who is both a political analyst and an educationist, has encouraged the government to terminate teacher trainees’ allowance if they cannot consistently pay.
Professor Obiri Yeboah, moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, and other Ghanaians have advocated for the elimination of the allowances given to teachers and nursing students in the country.
Mr. Yiadom claims that the government is having difficulty paying allowances on a regular basis because of the current economic climate.
“Because of Ghana’s current economic predicament, the government is having a hard time making the allowance payments.” If it is determined that eliminating the allowances would result in a more stable nation, then the allowances should be eliminated. On the show Oyerepa Breakfast Time, hosted by Kwesi Parker-Wilson, he made his assertions.
Mr. Yiadom made the suggestion that the same function that would be performed by the allowances may also be performed by student loans.
