Stonebwoy’s ’40-years’ comment is still attracting varied responses mixed with jabs from stakeholders and players in the music industry.
The Dancehall artist, who is unarguably one of the finest GH artists of all time, said it will take Ghana 40 years before any artist can chalk the feat that Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and himself have chalked.
He made this controversial statement during his performance at the 2019 MTN 4Syte Music Video Awards.
Here is what he said:“Big up to SM, big up to Shatta Wale mi breda, big up to Sarkodie mi breda. It will take another 40 years to find me, Sarkodie and Shatta in this industry. Forty years. We be national asset. If you like don’t protect, if you like protect, we be national asset.”
His comment has not gone down well with a lot of artists and their respective fans and when Kuame Eugene was asked to share his views about it in a recent interview with MzGee on 3FM, he said what Stonebwoy proclaimed is falsifiable.
“It took me just 2 years to get 15 hit songs and be playing shows all over the world, and become this influential and even headline my own shows. What makes Stonebwoy think it would take some of us another 40 years to reach their level? “
Kuame Eugene added:
“That 40 years is too much, Some of us might die in before that 40 years, I think he should reduce it small for some of us”. …like two or three years, we can able to do what Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Shatta Wale has done but 40 years is too far. It’s just the support that we need and some of us would reach their level in no time at all.”
