Ace broadcaster, Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD has stressed that during his prime days as a DJ, he never for a day took money from any musician to play his/her song for him/her.

In the olden days, ‘Payola’ as we’ve come to know was the order of the day. As a musician, you had to ay something for the radio show host/DJ in order for him to let your song enjoy massive airplay but over the years, it has been scrapped down by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

According to KOD in an interview in the studios of Hitz FM, yesterday noted that he does not like payola because it rips the DJ of his freedom to play the songs he likes.

“Soli is not legal. I personally don’t like such monies from people. Once they pay you they own you,” he said.

Touching on his relevance in the industry, he stressed that it is what pushed him to take such decision never to take any monies from musicians before playing their songs.
