Jamaal Williams is an American football running back for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). Williams studied at Fontana, California’s Summit High School. He participated in high school football there with the Sky Hawks.
He chose Brigham Young University (BYU) over Boise State as his collegiate football destination despite being a 3-star recruit.
Jamaal Williams Professional career
He played for Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. The Green Bay Packers selected Williams with the 134th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He was taken in the 13th round of the running back draft that year. On June 1st, 2017, he was given a contract as a rookie. Williams recorded two rushes for nine yards on September 10, 2017, in his NFL debut, helping his team defeat the Seattle Seahawks 17-9.
He recorded the first running touchdown of his career in Week 9 over the Detroit Lions. On December 3, he rushed for 113 yards and a score against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He ended his first season with a total of 25 receptions, 262 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns, 556 running yards and four rushing scores.
Williams agreed to a two-year deal with the Detroit Lions on March 19, 2021. He accumulated 110 scrimmage yards in the Lions’ 41-33 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the regular season’s opening game of 2021.
Williams broke Phillip Lindsay’s previous NFL record for the most carries without fumbling on November 25, 2021, when he carried the ball for the 585th time in his career. Williams concluded the 2021 season with 26 receptions for 157 receiving yards, 153 carries for 601 running yards and three rushing touchdowns.
