Key suspect in murder of soldier at Ashaiman confesses to crime, names gang members who conspired with him

The young man who was identified as the key suspect in the gruesome murder of a soldier at Ashaiman has confessed to the crime and named his conspirators.

The police had earlier detained the killer after which they released a press conference on Friday night. According to the release, the suspect was captured as a result of a one-week operation that was intelligence-led. Police have not released the names of the accused.

“The Police after a week of sustained intelligence-led operation have arrested the key suspects involved in the murder of Imoro Sherrif, the soldier who was found dead at Taifa Ashaiman on 4th March 2023,” the terse brief from the police said.

Meanwhile, the suspect has been seen in a video detailing how the operation went down culminating in the death of the soldier.

The soldier, who was born and bred in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region and was serving in Sunyani in the Bono Region, requested permission from his superiors to go back and see his parents in Ashaiman on Friday, March 3, 2023.

On Saturday morning, Private Sherrif Imoro, a 21-year-old soldier, was found deceased in a pool of blood. The Military High Command approved an operation to attack the neighborhood of Ashaiman on Tuesday in response to his murder, which resulted in the brutalization of many residents.

Since then, Private Sherrif Imoro has been buried according to Islamic tradition.
