Kurt Warner Biography and Career Stats

Kurt was born in Burlington, Iowa, and graduated from Regis High School in 1989. Whiles in school, he played for his high school team. From high school, he enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa and graduated in 1993. At the university, Warner was third on the Panthers depth chart until his senior year. Finally, he had his chance to start.

In 1994, Warner was given the chance to try out for the Green Bay Packer training camp but was released before the sea could start. Warner returned to Northern Iowa and worked as a graduate assistant coach with the football team with the desire of getting the chance to feature.

After the end of the season in December 1997, Kurt signed a contract with the team. So in February 1998, he was finally allowed to play for Amsterdam Admirals. He later returned to the United States and spent the 1998 season as St. Louis’ third-string quarterback. That season, he completed only 4 out of 11 passes and had a 47.2 QB rating.

In the 1999 season with the Rams, Kurt was named as a starter under coach Dick Vermeil. That season was the chance for Warner to shine. He completed 4,353 throws, 41 touchdown passes, and a completion rate of 65.1%. In his first 3 NFL starts, Warner threw three touchdown passes surpassing a record by Patrick Mahomes in 2008.

Warner was featured on Sports Illustrated’s cover with the caption “Who is this guy?” after his exceptional display against the 49ers. He was also named the 1999 NFL MVP for helping the Rams to their first playoff berth since 1989.
