Who is Larry Hoover?

Larry Hoover is a former American gang leader and co-founder of the Gangster Disciples street gang in Chicago. At the ADX Florence prison in Florence, Colorado, Hoover is presently serving six life sentences. He received a life sentence in 1997 after being given a 200-year term for a murder that occurred in 1973.

He eventually rose to the position of group leader. He chose to collaborate with a rival gang commanded by David Barksdale as a result. The organization adopted the name “Black Gangster Disciple Nation.”

Later, they carried out more violent crimes like assaults and shootings. By the time he was in his twenties, he had been in and out of prison numerous times, and had escaped numerous assassination attempts. He executed William “Pooky” Young, 19, on February 26, 1973. Young was charged with stealing cash and drugs from his group.

Young was shot by gang member Andrew Howard while he was being kidnapped. Both Larry Hoover and Andrew Howard were found guilty of murder and were given terms of imprisonment ranging from 150 to 200 years.

He received a sentence to the Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, Illinois as punishment for his acts. He proceeded to lead the gathering from behind bars, unfazed by the occurrence. Following his passing in 1974, David Barksdale was elected mayor of the South Side of Chicago.

He not only took charge of the South Side drug trade, but also the gang. The gang started taking part in charitable activities and political demonstrations in the early 1990s, and he asserted that he had left his criminal history in the past.

As a result, it was discovered that none of the non-governmental groups were involved and that these activities were solely intended to launder drug money. He oversaw the gang while incarcerated and engaged in drug dealing and extortion schemes.
