Malcolm Moses Brogdon is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Top 100 recruit Brogdon chose Virginia over offers from Notre Dame, Georgia, and Arkansas. After suffering a significant foot injury the previous season, he redshirted his second season.
He was well-known for being a key factor in the team’s winning 2013–14 and 2014–15 campaigns. Brogdon had 12.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game in the 2013–14 season. He received first-team All-ACC and ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Year honours in 2014–15, as well as being named to the consensus second-team All–American list.
The Milwaukee Bucks picked Brogdon with the 36th overall choice in the 2016 NBA Draft on June 23, 2016. In 2016, on July 30, he joined the Bucks.
On October 26, 2016, he played in his first NBA game, the Bucks’ season-opening loss to the Charlotte Hornets (107-96), recording eight points and five assists in 21 minutes. On November 1, 2016, he beat the New Orleans Pelicans 117-113 with 14 points and four steals. He made all seven of his shots on December 23, 2016, and finished with 17 points and seven assists.
Aaron Nesmith, Daniel Theis, Nik Stauskas, Malik Fitts, Juwan Morgan, and a 2023 first-round draft pick were acquired in exchange for Brogdon on July 9, 2022. Brogdon was given the option of being dealt to either the Toronto Raptors or the Boston Celtics.
Brogdon decided to accept a bench position as the Celtics’ sixth player for the first time in his career. On October 18, Brogdon made his debut for his new team in a 126-117 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, scoring 16 points off the bench. In a game against the Charlotte Hornets on January 14, 2023, Brogdon recorded a season-high 30 points on 11 of 17 field goal attempts and 4 of 6 three-point attempts. Brogdon was selected the NBA Sixth Man of the Year on April 20.
