Meg Ryan, whose birth name is Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra, is an American actress. Her career began in 1981 with her debut in the film Rich and Famous. She later joined the cast of the CBS soap opera As the World Turns in 1982. Ryan’s breakthrough role was in the romantic comedy “When Harry Met Sally” in 1989, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

Her parents divorced when she was 15 years old in 1976.
After graduating from Bethel High School in 1979, Ryan attended the University of Connecticut and later New York University, where she studied journalism. While in college, she acted in television commercials and the soap opera As the World Turns to earn extra money. Ryan left college a semester before graduating to pursue her acting career full time.
