The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sacked its Member of Parliament for the Fomena Constituency Hon. Amoako Andrew Asiamah over his decision to contest the forthcoming 2020 polls as an independent candidate.

In light of this, the speaker of parliament has been notified so his seat will be declared vacant in the meantime even before the general election scheduled for December starts. A statement from the party which was signed by the General Secretary says, “The Party has noted that the Member of Parliament for the Fomena Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Amoako Andrew Asiamah, who was elected to Parliament on the ticket of the Party, has filed to contest as an Independent Parliamentary Candidate. By so doing, he has presumably vacated his Seat in Parliament pursuant to Article 97(1)(g) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic”.

Furthermore, the party has warned that any member of the party who will support an independent candidate in their campaign will also lose their member of the party.
